What the watermark is for
A useful watermark does not just say "copy": it names a request and a date. A payslip marked "shared on 28 August — for this request only" cannot serve elsewhere without the mismatch showing. The copy becomes less useful to a third party, and easier to tie back to its send.
The wording
Tiled diagonally across the whole surface, hard to remove without leaving traces. You can edit it freely before downloading.
The reference
A ref. code unique to this copy, drawn on the image and written into the file. If the copy turns up again, it ties back to this send. The verify tool reads it.
